If your dog hasn’t pooped in 12-24 hours don’t panic. Like humans, a dog’s regular digestion and bowel movements can be disrupted by stress, excitement, shifts in routine, or by illness. If you don't see your dog poop for 24 hours, don't panic, but keep an eye on them. If they go more than 48 hours without pooping, they may be constipated.
What Does It Mean When a Dog Doesn't Poop for a Day?
The most common factors are linked to diet, hydration, and activity level:
- Diet: Too little or too much fiber in your dog's diet.
- Dehydration: Your dog is not drinking enough water.
- Lack of exercise: Your dog is sitting too much.
Should I Be Concerned If My Dog Hasn't Pooped in 24 Hours?
If you notice a decrease in the regularity of your dog's bowel movements, this may be a sign that constipation is developing. If your dog has no bowel movement for two or more days, you should talk to a pet expert or make an appointment with your veterinarian as soon as possible.

Symptoms of an intestinal obstruction:
- Vomiting, especially when repeated.
- Weakness.
- Diarrhea.

What Should I Do When My Dog Won't Poop?
Simple at-home responses to dog constipation include:
- Feed your dog unsweetened canned pumpkin.
- Feed your dog bran cereal.
- Feed your dog canned dog food to increase moisture.
