Socialization Process
The socialization process of an animal is crucial for its behavior with humans. It's important to start this process when the kitten is small to make it easier. The socialization of cats begins when they are still part of the litter and together with their mother, they develop basic instincts such as eating, licking, etc.
Experts suggest that the socialization process begins around three weeks, when they open their eyes and ears. This is when they begin to explore the world, distinguish human faces, and other pets. A cat that maintains contact with other animals and humans from an early age is generally a well-socialized cat when it reaches adulthood.
It's ideal to acquire your cat before seven weeks, as this is the period when important traits of its character are formed. Remember, the change of home will always be a sudden transformation for them. However, if you adopt them after this period, give them time to get to know their new home. Avoid pressuring them as it could cause stress or fear.
Emotional Development
Emotional development depends on how you nurture it. Unlike other animals, this stage does not end when they are one year old. To strengthen your cat's "personality", invite friends over, so the pet comes into contact with strangers and doesn't react aggressively when it gets older. It's important for them to interact with children (always under supervision) and dogs. Also, get your cat used to traveling by car, so trips to the vet or events aren't scary.
Patience
Patience is key in educating an animal. Stay calm when the kitty gets scared, remember that you must provide security and be the person they feel protected by. Reward them when they do something correctly. In case of negative actions, do not lash out at them. Instead, reprimand them by saying NO strongly and indicate the proper attitude.
To make the cat recognize its name, repeat it during its meal, when you pet it, or during other pleasant moments.
Hygiene
One of the concerns of pet owners is to keep their furniture from being destroyed. Placing a scratching post will draw their attention. You can teach them how to scratch the scratcher by moving their front legs over it.
Cats generally dislike water. Hence, familiarize your cat with baths from an early age, as well as brushing and nail cutting.
You should also educate your cat to eat the food you provide to prevent them from capturing prey and bringing it into the house. Once they are four or five weeks old, they can start eating cat food.
